Our featured speaker is Michael Staley, Ph.D., the suicide prevention research coordinator at the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner. Dr. Staley conducts near-real-time surveillance of suicide mortality, conducts equivocal death investigations, and suicide mortality research. He also oversees other epidemiological work, including unintentional drug overdose surveillance. Dr. Staley is currently working on the Utah Youth Suicide Research Project, a major study on teens who died by suicide in Utah, is part of the Utah Suicide Mortality Research Study (USMRS), and a board member of the National Association of Retrospective Fatality Analysts. Dr. Staley holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine and earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of New Hampshire.
This conference is designed for medical examiners, deputy medical examiners, and additional medical examiner personnel including medicolegal death investigators, forensic scientists, administrators, and other professionals working within or affiliated with a county.
